In October 2011, Kok Wee’s first solo photo exhibition featured his time in Bhutan , the only country in the world that uses Gross National Happiness as an official measurement for their national development; the humble showcase aptly titled, “Happiness is a Place”. This was held over 10 days at Millennia Walk and covered in Lian He Zao Bao and The Straits Times. The overwhelming response also saw a number of pictures sold (at SDGD 1,000 each); part of the proceeds went to two beneficiaries in Bhutan.

Deeply touched and inspired by the response, Kok Wee decided to develop this into a series of “Happiness . 喜乐”; each installment of his travel pictures presenting an interpretation of “Happiness”.

Other than sharing the joy he has discovered across the lands, Kok Wee donates the sale proceeds to selected charities. A firm believer in giving back to society, a professional Photographer known for going two extra miles, and a man with a heart of gold; the stage was all set for this Happiness series.

Come 03 August 2012 at The Volvo Art Loft, “Happiness is a Journey” takes you on a walk with Kok Wee through the smiles & sights of Padang (Indonesia) & Cebu (Philippines) . These were taken in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Kok Wee had explored these two countries with Crossing Bridges — a group of representatives from South East Asia’s greatest photography communities. Believing in forging friendships though photography, every trip is a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching journey for amateurs and veteran photographers alike; sharing and learning from fellow enthusiasts while experiencing new cultures together.

“Happiness is a Journey” officially opens on the 03 August, 7pm to 9.30pm at The Volvo Art Loft , and will run on till 31 August 2012. Kok Wee will also share his personal experiences behind the images on 15 August 2012 at the main office of Wealth Directions Pte Ltd (Address at 9 Penang Road #13-13/14/15 Park Mall Singapore 238459) from 7pm – 9pm. Admission to the Exhibition (The Volvo Art Loft is open from Mon to Sat from 8.30am – 7pm and Sun 10am – 7pm) is free and the sharing session on 15 August is at S$5 where all the proceeds will goes to Community Chest and Make-A-Wish Foundation®
